I like the short story form because it gives me a chance to be especially playful with language. In the novel form, playful language can stall the pace, hinder character development, distract from the plot. My favorite short story writers are Bradbury & Vonnegut: their work makes me FEEL; sometimes warm smiles, sometimes actual tears of joy.
