About the author

I'm Dan Eitreim and I worked as a professional photographer running my own photo studio for over 20 years. I've never apprenticed or worked for any other photographers. Because of this, I've had to learn and develop my photography skills on my own.
My first attempts were dismal, to say the least... so I studied, practiced and developed my photo skills and along the way I not only learned how to put the "wow" into my photos, but I've also learned how to teach others to do the same!
To that end, I've compiled a 42 volume series of photo training lessons that I've titled: "On Target Photo Training".
I've now started writing novels and have completed my first one: "The Photographer's Apprentice". I'm now at work on my second novel: "The Fortune Teller" and hope to have it finished soon.
I enjoy creating books and expect to be developing more!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 February 2013This is another great little book from Dan Eitreim. It doesn't matter if your a mum or dad, gran or granddad or even a professional that's not been in the Genre of photographing Children. This small book is ideal for everyone and is great for kindle Fire or in my case reading on PC or my large Android Phone. It's clear, concise, easy to read & understand. I've read many books by other authors about child photography and they get far to complicated for the many. Where any of Dan's books are exactly what you want and his tips do work all of them. I now own about 7 of Dan's books and they are all ideal as field guides that you can slip in your pocket on your phone which is what I do. A book for everyone and I sincerely mean it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 April 2016A very informative book, well written in an easy to understand format for beginners and more advanced photographers alike, covering most of the important & useful techniques and methods to get great portraits, best of all it's portable & can be read on most devices with the Kindle app or Kindle range of tablets, once loaded onto your device you won't forget to take it with you when out shooting (unless you forget your phone that is ! ).
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 January 2013Another great book by Dan. You will love it. It's full of information. I am not sure about the pros out there. But, I got so many things to learn and somewhere it definitely improved my photography. Most importantly the way I look around when I am trying to click a pic. Really nice book. Get one for yourself now. Believe me it will transform the way you look at photography.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 February 2013This book is excellent because it is written in a very clear and professional way. Both beginners and advanced users will benefit from a careful reading. An added feature is that it is organised so that you can "dip in" and receive immediate help with a problem. Some other books I have used have been too "clever" and self-indulgent for their own good.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 October 2014Basic information, mostly common sense, no great content for £5, don't know why others rated this so highly.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 November 2012Another good book from Dan. Full of useful hints and tips for any level of photographer. Easy to follow and put into practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendidly Informative...
This book covers a wealth of information. Without a doubt, I appreciate the added safety suggestion of including a shot of an address card (business card) as the first shot on the memory card because my memory card can hold more shots than I would actually take in a day. It is worth it to protect my investment.
Finding your style takes time and whether we know it or not, it more or less finds us (over time). The idea of "finding the story" is crucial to good image making and I can't agree with Dan more. When I was still in my teens one of my photography mentors taught me to shoot either "motion or emotion" and Dan covered this too. Great!
Of course, this ebook also covers lighting. And while I noticed Dan covered this subject in other books too, he repeated it and I am glad he did because the first time I read it I sort of got it (it was just starting to sink into my brain). And by repeating it I finally got it down pat.
Thanks, Dan, for your wonderful treatise on photographing children. It was both insightful AND inspiring!
If I'm looking to photograph children then this is the book to get! So I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learning many fundamentals of photography the interesting way...
I really liked this book because of the approach takin by Dan. Every concept, sometimes very technical, is dealt with simplicity and easy to understand examples. I will certainly keep this book for references...Thanks Dan for being a good teacher...

4.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Title but great information
This book doesn't really seem to be about children in particular, though Dan does use children as the theme to discuss photography techniques, and he also gives excellent advice about nudity in children - when it is okay to photograph, or not.
There is certainly a great deal of very useful information in this book which I believe applies to photographing people in general, so I do believe the book is an excellent resource to have in my library to read over and over again. I was a little disappointed, however, that there wasn't more information specifically about children, such as ideas for cute poses. I would also like to see better quality photographs to illustrate the points he makes as the examples are not really all that clear to study or analyse them (on my computer screen, anyway).

5.0 out of 5 stars photographing children
My third book from this author. Since I started reading his books I can hardly wait to get another and another. For beginners like myself, this is an excellent book. The material is very informative and written is such a way that it is easy to understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dan is a good teacher
Photographing Children, Tips, Tricks and Ideas... Is a great book for me. I am not professional, but I love taking pictures. I love the way he teaches. I find that since I have read some of his books that I am looking for all the things he points out to look at. Since I didn't have any young children around, I made my husband pose facing right and left so I could figure out his best side. As I was reading the book I was practicing on my poor husband. I am a hands on person and have to practice what I am reading.
I like the section on lighting. I think that LIGHT is one of the major factors that can make or break a picture. I knew that, but the way he explains it and what light can do is amazing. I don't know if I will get into much expensive lighting equipment, but he gives you some budget tips for manipulating light. I am a nature photographer, but when I take photos of the kids I know, I want to consider all the things that Dan says. I can already see an improvement in my photos. However, the main benefit of signing up for his newsletter and reading his books is that I have taken way more photos in the past month and a half than I have over the past 5 years. He will give you the enthusiasm to take your camera off "auto", know all the details of your camera, and get out there and click away. I love digital cameras because I can trash the learning curve photos. I have even gotten a friend to partner with in my photo-taking fun.
This is a great book. You can take what you like and leave the rest. Then when you are ready or interested in the "rest", come back and read it again.
Gotta go. I have a new grandson that was born last weekend and I am going to get some photos of him today.
