Wounded Souls Kindle Edition
Robert Francis Turley
Wounded Souls.
Amazon verified Review: July 2013
Digging through the endless titles of nonfiction memoirs on kindle, somehow, I found a diamond in the rough. The story of these three brothers is 100% engaging, endearing, and honest (formatting errors or not). I couldn't put it down. In fact, I read it in one sitting. It's the kind of book that will shed a little light in a dark room, cracking open the callous areas of your heart. It did mine, anyway. Thanks for sharing your story, Mr. Turley
This is my 1st and only book, i have produced it without any professional help..i have revised it many times and will continue to do so to make clear, and i hope although not perfect, easy to read.
My story which I share with you tells of a tragedy that change mine and my brothers lives forever. My journey is one of utter devastation and great highs, a struggle for three brothers to survive in very upsetting circumstances. These life changing events occur in Montreal (Canada) Liverpool London and trowbridge in Wiltshire (England). Tragedy descended upon my family in December 1957, and was closely followed by the British Broadcasting Company and Canadian newspapers, and again in 2002 by English and Canadian media.
I write this story and hope that nothing like it is ever visited upon another living soul. We all at some stage in our lives become hurt by events that happen all around us., Therefore in choosing the title of my story I realize these two words “Wounded Souls” must live up to their meaning and should never be used without genuine justification..
My story is fully documented throughout and a Canadian television video link provided free at the end of my story can be seen adding extra content to the book.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 January 2013I would like to say that I really enjoyed Bob Turley's book. It was full of emotion and I have to admit I shed a few tears whilst reading. It is a heartfelt story from Bob's own words and the journey through some chapters of his life.
A tragic fire killed his mum and brothers and I could feel throughout his book that there was a need for the three brothers to be there for each other at all times. Once you read this book it becomes clear that Bob and his two brothers had no-one else and had to survive however they could.
It is also an inspirational story to others, that life can hand you a bad deal, but never give up, even at times when you want to, because if you have the determination and the passion to want better, then you can succeed.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 September 2012This is a true life story about 3 brothers and their lives after the death of their mother and two younger brothers. I found this a truly sad story is which 3 young boys were uprooted from their home in Canada to live with family in England and separated from not only their father, but also from each other for four years until they were reunited as a family with the hope that life would get better only to find their hopes shattered even further and leading to more despair. For children to start life with such a happy and loving family to one of desolation and despair in such an early start to their lives is tragic and heart breaking. This is one of the brothers story about that life he and his brothers shared and the hard and painful times they encountered whilst they were young. They truly were wounded souls in many respects but eventually after all they went through managed to turn things around and come out of it with families of their own and still held a strong bond between the 3 brothers.
It was an easy book to read although sad and I did shed a tear or two, not the best time to read a particularly heart wrenching piece on the way into work on public transport. I enjoyed the book and would recommend other to read it too. In addition, although the author does say he is not a literacy genius, I think he is a brave man to have shared his memories in his book. Thank you.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 December 2012I would recommend this to anyone. I know the author so I could be biased here, but it is a very good read. I wouldn't say it is enjoyable only because of some of the subject matter, but their is humour in the story along with the tragedy. Bob Turley tells his story well for a first time author and does not wallow in self pity. This book can be an inspiration, if you see what Bob Turley had to endure in his life and not go under then, it could help people turn thier lives around. The book is easy to read and although the grammer isn't always spot on, it should not distract the reader from the story that the author is trying to tell. Buy it and read it, it may help the reader put some of the more unhappier times in their own past into perspective.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 July 2014An amazing story of amazing brothers . Honesty and strength shines through. I couldn't put it down I read it in one hit. Tears clogged my eyes right through only to roll down my cheeks on the brilliant gesture from a daughter and niece. Such a sad life from boys to men through no fault if their own . Yet all along as stated i felt many a times a guardian angel was with them. They were boys and men to be proud of their mother would have been so proud how they handled themselves and came through it all to turn out great fathers husbands/partners although not always appreciated by the Woman in their lives at the time. Great to see happiness has prevailed with new wife and children extended families good luck you all I wish you all a happy loving lives xxx
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 November 2020I met Rob 's daughter in law Stacey in the Park with my Grandson the same age as Vincent she told me about this book and I bought it . Rob is a similar age to me and his story is so very sad. How could he and his brothers have suffered so much with no one intervening. Yet despite the horrors all the boys were loving honest hard working men. Rob's simple faith and strong hope is a lesson to all who hit hard times. I am so happy that the brothers were able to have help in these latter years to establish links again with their family in Canada and lay them to rest. I wish the boys and their families love and happiness. Their story is an inspiration to us all to keep loving in all situations.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 April 2014Bought the book and could not put it down, spent the day reading, made me realise what a charmed and loved childhood I had. Felt the pain of Robert and his brothers, how aweful the things they went through, the misery his dad must of felt losing his wife and some children and being parted from the ones left. Then to have an aweful woman called May dictating his life. What a wounded soul he must of been. Having lived in Allerton and going to school in Garston also lived in London and trowbridge places that are mentioned in the book could relate, although my times spent in these places were completely different. Knew hardships and cruelty went on but not to what extent. Well worth a read and thank you Robert for sharing your memories and appreciate it must of been emotionally draining for you at times.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 April 2013This is the true story told by one of the survivors of a devasting fire which took the lives of his mother and two brothers in their home in Canada and how their settled comfortable world changed. Their father, unable to cope, remained in Canada and sent his three surviving children back to his family in Liverpool. Four years later their father returned and tried to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.
The writing style could have been improved upon had the copy been proof-read and essential corrections made before going to print. It lacks punctuation, making it a difficult read at times, sentences tend to be over-long with occasional unnecessary capitals in the middle of sentences, various spelling errors have been overlooked.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 August 2016What an amazing story , so very sad but showing how strong you three brothers were and what an incredible bond you all have . Thank you for sharing your story , i couldn't put your book down .

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read, especially Liverpudlians.
Heart--wrenching, good story, a must for anyone especially people from Liverpool. Cried as I read it. Read the Kindle version, lots of spelling and grammar errors, wondering if it was the person transcribing who made the errors or has the story been left in the author's original draft?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great memoir
Luckily I had not read the other reviews or I may have missed a great memoir. There are some spoilers in them and they are extremely critical of the editing (or lack thereof). I agree they are dreadful but oddly it did not spoil my enjoyment in the book. I cared very much about the journey Robert took and did indeed find the utube film mentioned towards the end of the book. Get the editing sorted and you will have a best seller!

4.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting read for those suffering hardships
It was wonderful to read Mr. Turley's memoir. I won't spoil it, but I'm happy for him and his family. An inspirational read--maybe it is good for teenagers who are also suffering from loss? Don't worry about the various typos, grammatical errors because this is a personal memoir and I imagine hiring a professional editor is expensive. Take the little mistakes as colloquial charm. Thanks for sharing, Mr. T.
