- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 September 2013Oh my goodness. Where do I start. This is one of the best crime novels I have ever read (I've read a lot!).
It all started with the absolutely brilliant Cold Killing, followed by the novella Redemption of the Dead and now this. I didn't think Luke Delaney would be able to ace Cold Killing but I can say, with complete honesty, he certainly has. This is breathtakingly brilliant, scary, very very disturbing, yet remarkable, to say the least. I was absolutely terrified reading it; I was checking all my windows and doors.
My hero, DI Sean Corrigan, is back investigating the abduction of totally innocent females. He is assisted, again, by Dave Donnelly and the traumatised Sally Jones and the other members of his loyal and totally overworked team.
I have to say that the character of Thomas Keller was absolutely terrifying to me and comes from the same mould as the equally horrific Hannibal Lecter.
There was such a disturbing part towards the end of the book that was so utterly moving I was in tears.
It is also a breath of fresh air to have superb Police investigative work without making the Police look like total incompetents as can sometimes be the case; also that Sean has the complete and utter backing of DS Featherstone as, in some crime novels, the main cop is a maverick and works more or less alone.
Luke Delaney is now my favourite crime writer and I have an inkling where the next book will be going which I hope will be out very very soon.
If you like a great crime novel, with superior Police investigations, a fantastic, almost psychic leading Detective Inspector, then this is the book for you. Read it but be prepared to lose sleep as its totally gripping from page one. One word of advice though, I wouldn't recommend reading parts of it whilst eating (like I sadly did) as there are some very graphic details of torture.
Utterly brilliant and highly recommended,
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 December 2013Great read from Delaney's second writing, you cant help but feel involved in Sean Corrigan's investigation. Very realistic, graphic descriptive descriptions. It is definitely the start of a long career for Luke Delaney in the Sean Corrigan series. Cant wait for the next one released in February 2014.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 September 2013This is the second full length book featuring Sean Corrigan.
Sean Corrigan is back and on the hunt for a man who is kidnapping and murdering young women in London. The book follows the murder team trying to work out who would want to take women from their homes in broad daylight, then murder them over a week later. At the same time, we have the narrative from the kidnapper and get a real understanding for his thoughts and motivations. A few chance observations and deductions lead Corrigan to the doorstep of the killer.
What makes this such an outstanding read is the character of Corrigan and the construction of the plot. It feels like a real police investigation and some of the conversations between members of the murder investigation team are believable. Strong characterization makes this compelling to read. Just as Corrigan has great empathy for the kidnapper and his warped thinking, we also are encouraged to see the kidnapper as a fully rounded individual. The kidnapper isn't just an evil person, but a product of an abusive and neglected environment.
Reading this book will make you reluctant to answer the door to postmen.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 June 2015It is like a car crash happening in front of your eyes. You cant look away, but you dont want to watch it happen. Reading this was exactly like that. The way it is written, the terror of the captives, yet you empathise with the kidnapper. You cringe when you read about his life, wonder how people can be so cruel. DI Corrigan has some dark secrets and he seems to be bringing them to the fore more and more and if you have read the first in the series you will know all about Sally. The minutie of police procedure is all there and you want to shout out that you know the answer to the riddle that keeps evading them. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 July 2015Good follow up to the first book in the series and definitely worth a read. Good opening phase but it then becomes a bit bogged down and repetitive, gives the feeling that he was trying desperately to fulfil a certain number of pages. Would recommend but could have been around 50 pages shorter with no detriment to the final product.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 July 2014This book was OK. I finished it but found myself skipping sections as I was rather bored by the end. I found the main character - DI Sean Corrigan - rather irritating and not very believable. I felt that the depiction of him was rather Americanised and, of course, 'he's a maverick, but he gets results'. In this case however, the way he goes about investigating the missing women in the story is just not authentic enough for me. To use a cliche - he is very one dimensional. The story itself is OK - my problem is really with its execution. I haven't yet decided if I'll read any more by this author. I might at a push if I couldn't find anything I preferred!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 April 2014I love this author , this is the second book I've purchased of his , he's an awsome crime writer . I really couldn't put this book down . DI Corrigan is a really great character , and one I hope he continues to write books about . This book is fast paced , great characters , great baddie , I just love a good serial killer . The ending was truly gripping . Well done Mr Delaney , keep them coming . 5 stars from me . P.S Mr Delaney get on Facebook plz then I know when u r releasing a new novel .
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 July 2015I enjoy a good detective novel and this book ticks all the boxes. The characters are well written and very believable, the story line is to be honest gruesome but because of the nature of the main character we the reader are allowed inside the head of some very disturbing people.
Clever writing, pacey - a good holiday read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grande autor!

3.0 out of 5 stars

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book but With Flaws!
This was a very well written book but I had to struggle to finish it. The violence against the women was awful and made me feel dirty reading it. I got attached to one of the victims and did not like what happened to her. Also, I am tired of reading books where one of the detectives has gotten attacked and is now hooked on pain pills. I know it happens but I have read at least five books by different authors where this happens and have seen about six or more television shows about this. It is getting tiresome. Also, I wish they would kill off Sean's wife as she does nothing but whine.
