The Pet Budgie Died This Morning Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 186 ratings

This book is the first of a series of short stories written by this new author looking back at some of the funny episodes of his life and looking at present day topics of interest. In this 1st book Alan discusses topics ranging from his early schooldays to holidays, to working with local builders. He takes a rather cynical look at the world of politics before reviewing his failed attempts at DIY. Other topics include a heartfelt complaint about the education system and a painful look back at his only visit to a gym. Booze, pets and gardening are not spared the humerous touch either, and IKEA and Health and Safety take a bashing too. Is it funny? Well that rather depends upon your sense of humour but some people think so.

Alan Fisher is a retired finance manager who spent all of his career working for the NHS in the North East of England where he still lives with his wife Elaine. He started writing fairly late in life when he decided to try to write a children's novel to sell to friends and colleagues to raise funds for Children in Need. And after many months of hard work and sleepless nights, Matt Robinson and The Magic Rocking Horse was born. Alan raised close to £1000 for his efforts, but equally importantly, he found that he could write, albeit not at the level of J K Rowling. When Alan retired a couple of years later, he was encouraged to keep up with his writing and share his efforts through the Amazon medium. Books followed showing Alan's peculiar sense of humour with The Pet Budgie Died This Morning and Bugger All That's How Much. Alan then turned his attention to crime stories and created the character of Oliver Cole, a fresh faced newly qualified Detective Constable. There are now 6 books in the DC/DS Oliver Cole series and a 7th is under way. Now in his mid 60's Alan continues to write because of the pleasure his stories brings to those who read his work, and he hopes to be able to write many more stories of the trials and tribulations of DS Oliver Cole.

dull I didn't finish it as life is too short to waste. Very brief stories spelling errors. Why it was published I can't imagine

Easy to read, produced a couple of laughs but I have read better comedy. For the price though it passed the time.

A simple read but I'm afraid this did't raise a smile let alone a laugh. Cannot recommend this book if you have even a half developed sense of humour.
