A tale full of adventure, romance and emotion. With the added bonus that it's really funny. The image alone of an English gentleman and Charlie Chaplin impersonator making his way through Thailand and Brazil is enough to conjure up a smile. This is a well-told story which contains entertainment on every page, and features a likeable protagonist that you can't help but root for. His adventures will make you laugh, cringe and cry. It's a relatable story of somebody trying to find their place in a world that doesn't really make sense to them, trying to overcome personal fears and low self esteem and discovering what they are capable of. Great stuff.

Really good book, just dragged a little in parts somewhat. But I enjoyed the quirky character and his adventures. Definitely a writer to look out for. I look forward to reading his next work of fiction.

A story that follows the life of a young man who struggles to find a place within a society that seems to admire everything that he is not. We are given a first person recount of his attempt to carve out his own place, to find a place to fit, but without giving up on his own traditional values of what it means to be a gentleman. The speaker confides in us his deepest thoughts and his more superficial mental meanderings, whilst taking us on an exciting adventure around the world and inviting us to join him on a roller-coaster of love, sex and romance. I found this story to be a unique and eye-opening drama that is at times heart-warming and at others sad and melancholy. The book is a celebration of the smaller things in life, with nuggets of wisdom and a sense that the author has been there, done that and got the T-Shirt. Buy it!!

I read this in 2 days. The story had me cringing, crying and laughing in equal measure.
The book follows the adventurous travels and mishaps of a very endearing character who, despite his quirky qualities and at times odd behaviour, you can't help falling a little bit in love with.
I had to keep setting my alarm because I got so caught up in this fabulous and well written story that I lost all track of time.
I so hope there's a sequel soon, I miss that Gentleman Tramp!

I was recommended this book some time ago and I decided to take it with me on my journey abroad. I've always been the impatient traveller who can't sit still on a plane but The Gentleman Tramp proved to be a great choice as I literally forgot where I was the moment I started reading. The story just flowed so nicely I couldn't close my kindle until I was finished. It has a good share of funny moments and great descriptions. I thoroughly enjoyed it! A great read for anyone that likes travelling, different cultures and just needs something to cheer them up.

This is a globe trotting romp centered around a Charlie Chaplin impersonator who is trying to discover who he is, by learning more about the world. With the company of his dog Scraps (great dog name, by the way), and the company of a lovely lady or two, we follow him on his journey.

I very much enjoyed the writing style of Toby Glover. I don't know if it is the fact that he is from the UK, but I thought the writing was really refreshing and well done. You could really tell that the author cared about the characters, especially the main character, and in turn made the reader care for the character as well. With each new setting that we find ourselves in (Rio, New York, Nepal, etc), the writer really makes it feel like we are in a whole new surrounding, that really makes things feel all the more genuine.

It is a really well done character driven story, that was enjoyable from start to finish

I enjoyed the first part of this book, although did not care for the middle while the Chaplin character made his journey overseas. The book picked up after that and had a good ending. Surprisingly, this character survived all of life's hard knocks, although it took him quite a while to realize how to do it. Reminded me a little of other books with a main character traveling through life's travails trying to find self-discovery, religion, or whatever they deem is missing in their lives. I guess the grass is always greener, so they say. My favorite character in this book was Scraps, unfortunately.

This story is very unique and engaging, Mr. Glover takes us on a meandering walk through this mans life and all his trials and tribulations along the way. It is a glorious piece of work that I am extremely grateful that I had the pleasure to read. The author does an exceptional job with the creation of his characters, I could easily picture them all in my mind as I was reading, that is the sign of a true storyteller.

I highly recommend this book to anyone willing to shed a tear, or giggle a bit or just root for the underdog, then this is a book for you.

Excellent Work Toby! Can’t wait for the next one.

Wasn't sure that I would like this story. In the end though, I loved it. It made me think, laugh out loud, and even shed a tear or two. A bit of a cliffhanger at the end, but there is a positive outcome implied so let your imagination just float with the thought that everything will eventually work out! Highly recommend this book for everyone! If you are a Charlie Chaplin fan, then definitely try this out as there are many references to his great work and wisdom in every single chapter!

A beautiful story about a troubled soul wandering a world incapable of understanding him or being fully understood by him. Is it really him the one with issues or the world around him? That's a question which probably neither his hero Charlie Chaplin could answer.
