4.0 out of 5 stars 1,954 ratings

Join countless other romance readers who have been captured, claimed, and seduced by Julianne MacLean’s passionate and adventurous bestselling Highlander series.

A SCOTTISH PRISONER
Nothing means more to Scottish heiress Larena Campbell than saving her father from the gallows. While on an urgent mission to deliver his pardon from the King, she and her English escorts are attacked by a pair of fierce Scottish rebels. When she is dragged unconscious back to the stronghold of Angus the Lion, a powerful and dangerous Scottish laird, she is furious with her captors and determined to escape at any cost…

CAPTOR AND PROTECTOR
Highland scout, Darach MacDonald, is suspicious of the beautiful and defiant heiress who clocked him in the head during the skirmish with the enemy Redcoats. He suspects she will stop at nothing to win her freedom—not even a manipulative seduction of his younger brother Logan. Fiercely protective of his brother, Darach volunteers to shepherd the heiress back to her home, but spending countless nights on the open road with a lassie as temptingly beautiful as Larena Campbell is enough to drive any hot-blooded Scot mad with savage desire. Suddenly he is overcome by a need to claim her as his own, but when they arrive at her father’s castle, all may not be what it seems…

Darach and his brother Logan, finds and injured lass and dead men everywhere. They take her to Angus the Lion to recover. Angus then orders the brothers to return her to her betrothed. She also carries a pardon from the King, for her father. Intrigue, hatred and revenge, a good tale and I am looking forward to Logan's story next!

Oh my word, i cannot wait to finish this story! The heroin is SOOO naive and childish! I want him, I don't want him.. I trust him...oh wait, I don't trust him...I say, the guy has a patience of a saint!
Sorry Ms MacLean! This novel is nowhere near to what you can produce. It feels like somebody else has written this book. :(

Got totally lost in this book. A really great read, sad it had to finish. The characters are interesting and believable. Would love a man like Darech.

Not Julianne Maclean's usual high standard of storyline-dull.
The characters lacked consistent traits which left me confused.
I would not recommend this book as I felt more enjoyment to be had from her others-all of which I've read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Anything Highlander for Happiness
Reviewed in the United States on 16 September 2017
I liked this book for the chivalry of most of the Scottish men I've read about. This tale had romance as well as history; that's what I like, plus all of the twists and turns that keeps reading and being able to put it down. Really liked the characters and the way things kept me interested. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good historical romance, I sure do like this book and hope to read more like it. Great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this new historical
Reviewed in Canada on 14 July 2015
I really enjoyed this new historical, Return of the Highlander, the fourth in the Highlander Series that i've read. The first three were wonderful reads and I've waited too long for this one, the Return of the HIghlander. Made myself re-read book three before starting so that the continuity flowed through this book in the series. After a very satisfying read, and seeing true love bring Darach and Larena, two strong and willful and wonderful characters together, I can say I certainly enjoyed book four as much as the others and it's whet my appetite for the next in the series. Logan's story is one that intrigues me, even now. Where did he go? What's he been doing? Will the brothers reconcile? What are Logan's motivations, his dreams, his fears and will true love derail him, or propel him faster toward the revenge he seeks? How can such a moody character have a happy ever after?Julianne is a master when she creates not only the stories that pull your heart to the Highlands, but also the characters that make you want to live their lives alongside them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bickering couple make strange decisions
Reviewed in Australia on 31 August 2017
There is lots to like about this book but some aspects are jarring. On the good side is a racing tale that never slows down, great descriptions and an accessible writing style. But the perplexing decisions of the lead characters and the romantic seesawing become frustrating.

At the start I loved the characters and wanted them to suceed. A fiesty heroine who can shoot arrows meets a hunky sullen hero with great tension between them, what's not to like? But halfway through their IQs drop and they turn into that bickering couple you wish you hadn't invited to dinner. She becomes whiny and helpless. And the baddie is a hot mess, evilly dissecting insects one minute then wussing it up with his fiancé the next. Is he Hannibal Lector or the Bachelor? Not convincing.

I love 'Captured by the Highlander', the first in this series, a five star effort with characters that evolve and grow. This one is much weaker and less developed. It's an OK read but it only just scraped into my four star rating.

The suspense kept me turning the pages as I zoned everything else out! I could relate to both Darach and Larena, with their loyalty and love towards their family. The emotional struggles they face are so universal. Oh, and I'd love to meet Darach some day!
